YOur year 9 options

During Year 9, your child will choose their Key Stage 4 GCSE options to study alongside the core curriculum which includes English, Mathematics, Science, PSHE and Physical Education.

These option subjects are selected to further diversify the curriculum your child studied in Key Stage 3 and allows them to study in depth subjects for which they have a particular passion or interest.

Our Personalised Pathways

In Years 10 and 11, students will follow one of 3 distinct pathways, the Oak, Kite or Novel Pathways.

Students in the Oak Pathway will follow the English Baccalaureate and study French or Spanish, plus either Geography or History, plus 2 free choices from the suite of subjects that includes Computer Science.
Students in the Kite Pathway will study either Geography or History, plus 3 free choices from the suite of subjects. Students can opt to study the English Baccalaureate by choosing French, Spanish, Computer Science, History or Geography as one of their free choices.
Students in the Novel Pathway will study either Geography or History, plus 2 free choices from the suite of subjects. Students can opt to study the English Baccalaureate by choosing French, Spanish, History or Geography as one of their free choices.

We strongly believe that our curriculum pathways are there to guide your child's subject choices rather than dictate them. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's Head of Learning or the Vice Principal, Mr J Clarke if you wish to discuss your child's Key Stage 4 options in further detail.

In Key Stage 4 students study up to 10 GCSEs, depending on their ability. The varied options system allows for the study of three separate sciences, as well as two languages and a range of courses, including vocational options. We have produced lots of information to help parents/carers and students make decisions about their Options.

Core Subjects

In Year 10 and 11, all students will continue to study the core subjects below.

EBACC Subjects

As part of their Year 9 options, students will be asked to select some of their subjects from the EBacc, which includes French, Spanish, Computer Science and a Humanities subject.
