Year 7 Key Steps

Students disapplied from Modern Foreign Languages in Year 7 follow the Key Steps Programme. Key Steps is a comprehensive schedule of activities in a range of topic areas covering Citizenship, PSHE, Environment Education, Personal Finance Education, Enterprise and Internationalism. The flexibility and range of Key Steps means that it can be followed for up to three years or for less than one year depending upon the learning needs of the individual. Each module of the course is presented in the form of a personal challenge to encourage students to develop their skills and take responsibility for their own learning.

Aims

The Key Steps programme aims to support our more vulnerable learners through their transition to Secondary School by:

  • Developing skills whilst working as part of a small group in a nurturing environment. Work is set, differentiated and delivered to meet the needs of the students.
  • Developing research skills through independent learning tasks.
  • Students are challenged to work collaboratively with others and to meet deadlines.
  • Students develop their social skills and communication skills.
  • Students develop their functional skills across a broad range of subjects that are linked to the programme through the topics they cover.

Assessment

Students are required to produce a portfolio of work alongside their student book and recording documents. They must complete 30 hours of challenges to achieve each certificate and they may achieve up to three certificates over the duration of the programme.
