Our Life Lessons
"I would like to compliment the school for the due care and attention they have placed with my daughter. In today's society there are a lot of pressures on young children and it's nice to see that the school is keeping in step with these changing times." Parent of current student
Here at The Highcrest Academy, we work in line with the PSHE Association and have adapted this work into ‘Life Lessons’
PSHE education gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.
These skills and attributes help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain (PSHE Association).
Relationship, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) became statutory from September 2020.
The legislation introduces three new statutory subjects: Relationships Education for primary; Relationships and Sex Education for secondary; and, Health Education for both. These subjects will be part of the basic school curriculum not the National Curriculum and will be statutory in all schools (statutory Health Education will not apply to independent schools). The new statutory subject of Health Education includes coverage of: mental wellbeing; internet safety and harms; physical health and fitness; healthy eating; drugs, alcohol and tobacco; health and prevention; basic first aid; and, changing adolescent body (ie. Puberty education).
